Missing in action!

Updated: Finally added two pictures of the office furniture in the house "curing"

So sorry we have been MIA from our blog!

In a nutshell- the office furniture painting project is KICKING OUR BUTTS! It has taken us 3 1/2 weeks to paint everything, with 3-4 coats of black paint. We have been painting at nights after work, during the weekends, anytime we have some free time we are painting.  It feels like its been non-stop. The good news is that 90% of the furniture is done.

The bad news is the last 10%. After we finished painting, we took a master carpenter's advice of protecting the desktop and the top of the file cabinet with a gloss lacquer. This is where it went really bad. We tested the lacquer on the privacy panel for the desk and noticed the finish looked cloudy. But we were so excited to be so close to finishing this beast of a project, that we thought "maybe with a second coat it will get shinier". So, we sprayed the desktop, the file cabinet and the privacy panel with several coats of lacquer - per the instructions. And the finish just got cloudier and cloudier. So upsetting that a month+ of hard work and now these pieces don't look so great.

We have moved all of the furniture into the house, as the paint needs to "cure" for 7days in the AC. We prayed that maybe some miracle would happen and the AC would turn the cloudy finish to a beautiful glossy finish- but no such luck.

For now, we need to get ready for the McReynold's visit next week, so we are going to set up the office (as all of the office boxes are now in the dining room) and tackle fixing the lacquer mistake after they leave. We think we will sand off the lacquer (and maybe paint) and start again. Ugh!

Other than that, we spent 4th of July in Annapolis for a lovely wedding. It was really nice to get away from the house and its infinite list of projects for a weekend.

Bookshelf and file cabinets all set up. Waiting to dry so we can place in the shelves.

The desk in place. Notice the piece of missing molding on the bottom? Cause I do!
